Tradition holds that Australian coins bear an effigy of the reigning Monarch on their obverse. Since the introduction of decimal currency in 1966, Australia's circulating and collectible coins have featured five different effigies of Queen Elizabeth Il as the reigning Monarch. With the succession of King Charles the Ill, Australia's coins will for the first time bear the effigy of a new sovereign. Following in the footsteps of the tradition that each successive Monarch face in the opposite direction, the new effigy of King Charles Ill by Dan Thorne will be looking in a new direction as the sixth effigy to appear on Australia's decimal currency.
